There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 NIV
This type of anxious depression can be called depletion, a feeling of being mentally tired, worn out, leaving us feeling low. There are other types of depression so it’s important to get depression clearly diagnosed be a Doctor. Anxiety is fear, a fear of something, maybe of a specific phobia or a heart attack or a loved one being in danger. The point is that fear exists and is constantly with us in our thoughts when we are anxious. Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) works because it helps us to look at our own thought pattern and readdress them i.e. turn negative thinking into positive thinking, and to recognise when we are falling into the trap of negative thinking. We are so influenced by our own thoughts that our moods change accordingly by releasing the chemicals that make us happy or sad. There are lots of organisations available to help people with depression and really worth investigating.
So what about Christianity, how could it help my depression?
Christians can get depressed also, being a Christian does not automatically make you happy or contented. Often Christians can become more aware of their own wrong doing and of the horrors around them, but as Christians we have hope, direction and guidance, and also a large community for support. Jesus speaks to us about trusting in him, and about the fulfilment of following him, I often hear Christians say ‘the closer we get to Jesus the happier they feel’, Jesus offers eternal hope and words of comfort, direction and a never ending Love for you.
Jesus said: Come to me all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus said: My peace I leave with you; My own peace I now give and bequeath to you.. Do not let your own hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

A simple prayer:
Dear Jesus, I thank you and put my trust in you, you are always at my side even when I am depressed; I know that you will never let me down, forgive me for the times that I have disappointed you, guide me and teach me, fill me with your power, I pray for healing and peace in the love and assurance that you died and rose again for me, amen
