Because anxiety is fear based, an anxious person looks for the danger to make sense of the feelings of fear; this can lead to unfounded suspicions about themselves or others. A person may form an opinion based on a perceived danger, without having any real grounds that it is true: they 'read' the danger into that situation. Such mistaken beliefs can lead to an action taken by a person based on suspicion. The real problem may be a person’s own precondition to anxiety (fear). You imagine a situation that you are in, you make a judgment, and you’re assessing the scene in your mind, running through the events, like a play in our minds. We become the play director. All people do this and it’s perfectly normal up to a point. However for the anxious person, it can seem fearful, remember they are sensitised, ready to seek out the threat; so a small suspicion starts to develop into a possibility, and that possibility feels right, and so becomes more real. Now they have moved from the feeling that the suspicion is probably right, to one where it must be right. Now they may have talked themselves into believing it as true, something that has no real foundation and is probably not true. And so an anxious person acts in an angry or agitated way of hides feeling suppressed and low. Thank goodness we can turn to God who will never let us down, and has come to set us free from the bondage of anxiety.

Mistaken beliefs can also be about ourselves, that we are no good or that we are weak or a failure. If someone puts us down, and we are anxious already, we may believe them, and we suspect they may be right. This is because the anxious person is prone to mistaken beliefs of a persecutory nature built on fear. So the fear has turned against us even though it is not true. In a relationship, or where two people work together and both suffer from anxiety, which is bound to happen from time to time, then both people may become suspicious and reinforce each other’s mistaken belief. What a mess that can end up in. If we are aware of our own suspicions then we can re examine our thoughts, ask ourselves questions about the situation, and not make snap judgments. This alone can help an anxious person live a more relaxed and peaceful life. Jesus came to set us free, to give us new hope and direction, to trust in him, put our fears at his feet. He has guaranteed us that if we trust in him he will never leave us and we will be with him forever.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5,6).

"And Jesus said unto them ... , "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to younder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you."
Romans 1:17

A simple prayer:

Dear Jesus, I thank you and put my trust in you, you are always at my side even when feeling confused; I know that you will never let me down, forgive me for the times that I have disappointed you, guide me and teach me, fill me with your power, I pray for healing and peace in the love and assurance that you died and rose again for me, amen
