Anger is closely related to anxiety as often anger is a response to fear. The feeling of being angry or irritated is often triggered by a release of adrenalin as a response to a threat, either real or perceived. 'Fight or flight' cuts in, anger leans towards the fight, and with the anger chemicals flowing around your body a person can respond in an aggressive way. When the chemicals in the blood reduce, you calm down and feel more relaxed, and may even wonder why you acted in such an angry way to what may have been a small matter.

There is nothing wrong with anger: it is hard wired into us as a defense mechanism. Indeed, in some circumstances e.g. some terrible injustice, anger is a correct and helpful response, and would enable us to do more than if we had remained calm.

Jesus became angry at times, but he never lost control or did things he later regretted. He is a God of love and compassion who understands

Jesus said
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; and if anyone would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you. You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matthew 5:38:45 RSV)

A simple prayer:

Dear Jesus, I thank you and put my trust in you, you are always at my side even when feeling angry; I know that you will never let me down, forgive me for the times that I have disappointed you, guide me and teach me, fill me with your power, I pray for healing and peace in the love and assurance that you died and rose again for me, amen
