Self Esteem is the way that we feel about ourselves. We are talking here about low self esteem; this can affect a person with anxiety due to the constant feeling of fear, this makes it harder to feel good about ourselves and to shrug off insults from others and our own self-persecutory thoughts.

We can perceive that are being 'put down' in some way, or have been threatened in some way. The 'put down' or 'threat' may be towards the way we look or act, maybe what we have or have not done, or achieved. Whatever way or by what design it comes, it is how we react that affects our self esteem i.e. if we have no reaction physically or psychologically to the 'put down', then we will be unaffected.

In reality we are affected because we value ourselves and we see the attack as an attack against us personally and who we are. This makes us doubt our sense of self, who we are and our belief in ourselves and what we are worth.

As Christians we have great comfort in the knowledge that we are of great value to God and are valued greatly by Him. We are the apple of His eye, and are of immense importance to Him. This is amazingly demonstrated by what God did for use by suffering a terrible death on the cross because he loves us that much: Jesus would have died the death for us even if we were the only person on the planet.

Jesus did that so we could live a full and confident life in the knowledge that we are Gods people, princes and princesses, children of the King of Kings, and he has lifted us up. Give him a chance and read his word in the Bible and low self esteem will have no place in your life.

"Jesus said: Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life? 28And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; 29yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith? 31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.

34"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.
(Matthew 6:24-34)

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

... say to those with fearful hearts, "Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you."
Isaiah 35:4

A simple prayer:

Dear Jesus, I thank you and put my trust in you, you are always at my side even when feeling desperate; I know that you will never let me down, forgive me for the times that I have disappointed you, guide me and teach me, please help me to lift my self esteem, fill me with your power, I pray for healing and peace in the love and assurance that you died and rose again for me, amen
